When we started sketching our new plug-in project, our aim was to create a versatile and truly musical dynamics processor, which handles the dynamics in a way that allows you to be creative, without a complicated user interface.
Our intention, to create a versatile truly musical and creative dynamics processor, without a complicated user interface, resulted in Syrah – A new generation dynamics processor utilizing real time dynamic detection and level dependent processing, making it automatically adapt to the music and to the beat of the audio material.

Preset and Parameter Handling
- Preset/Parameter slots
- To enhance the workflow the two Preset/Parameter slots, A and B, can be loaded with two full set of parameters at the same time. Apart from saving each preset, a “Global Preset” containing both the A and B settings, and the position of the “Morphing Slider”, can be saved.

Adaptive Processing Control The adaptive processing algorithm in Syrah can be defined by a Mode setting parameter, which his is one of the most significant controls on Syrah defining how the algorithm automatically tries to adapt the processing to the audio material. Modes:
- Dynamic Soft
- Dynamic Deep
- Static By selecting one of the two provided dynamic modes, a range of parameters becomes dynamic and will vary in sync according to the audio analysis, aiming at a result that is closer to the original material.
M/S Stereo Operation Syrah provides an option for individual processing of the M/S components, a well-known technique often used in mastering to process the stereo image or the center impact, and since Syrah adapts the processing to the audio material, the result will generally match the stereo material more accurately, resulting in a larger variety of possible sound modifications, such as; dynamically increasing the space (room) impression, boost the main center components and similar tasks.

The result is Syrah, a new generation dynamics processor utilizing real time dynamic detection and level dependent processing, providing adaptive dynamic capabilities, which mean that Syrah is always trying to adapt to the music and to the beat of the material.
Using parts of our exquisite ‘BitterSweet’ technology, our new adaptive-dynamics technology, and our well-recognized level independent dynamics processing, Syrah will be well suited as a creative versatile processor for recording and mixing, as well as for delicate and demanding mastering tasks.
As you may notice, the controls are not the usual suspects found on a dynamics processor, instead, the controls provided typically affect more than one parameter in the underlying algorithms, with everything carefully tweaked allowing for creative processing still ensuring the finest sound achievable.

Syrah, based on the legendary algorithms behind the Alchemist and Solera processors, has since it was released been kind of a secret brew for many engineers. Syrah is designed to react in real-time to the nature of the input signal, making it an extremely versatile compressor with the ability to adapt to anything from individual sources to a complete mix. With its refined user interface, it’s a really simple and efficient processor for quickly dialing in compression with outstanding results.
The Syrah is is a creative dynamics tool. Many of the functions are adaptive, i.e. they constantly react to each other and the material you send through the plug-in, instead of the fixed states in many dynamic processors.
It has a variety of possible uses and I’ve just scratched the surface myself. So far I’ve found the Syrah is a superb for parallel processing, a very useful technique in mastering and mixing.
I’ve made two presets called Parallel Enhancer Loud and Parallel Enhancer Soft.

- M/S Width for controlling the stereo width of the processed signal
- Discrete peak limiter at the very last stage of the processing chain rounding off the peaks in a smooth and musically fashion
- True bypass control routing the incoming signal direct to the output for a smooth transition between clean and processed signal
