Developer’s Description

3DS Export for SpaceClaim is a 3D Studio (.3ds) file export add-in for SpaceClaim?®. This add-in gives SpaceClaim the ability to export 3D solid and surface data from a SpaceClaim part or assembly document to 3d polygon meshes in a 3D Studio 3DS file. 3DS Export for SpaceClaim tessellates solid bodies in a SpaceClaim document into a set of triangular meshes. These meshes are then exported to a 3D Studio 3DS file as mesh objects. The 3S file can then be imported into a variety of CAD applications.

3DS Export for SpaceClaim Publisher’s Description

3DS Export for SpaceClaim is very easy to use. It adds new commands to SpaceClaim. Once installed, it automatically loads itself into SpaceClaim and adds a new ribbon bar to SpaceClaim called “SYCODE” containing the newly added commands.
The new commands are:
Export – Exports a 3DS file
Help – Displays the 3DS Export for SpaceClaim help file
Register – Displays the 3DS Export for SpaceClaim product registration dialog box
About – Displays the 3DS Export for SpaceClaim about box
3DSExport for SpaceClaim comes with detailed documentation for each command as well as a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.
The 3DS File Format
The 3DS file format is the native file format of 3D Studio. 3D Studio has now been replaced by 3ds Max whose native file format has a .max file extension. However, 3ds Max is still able to read and write .3ds files. 3ds Max is one of the most widely-used off the shelf 3D animation programs. It has strong modeling capabilities, a flexible plug-in architecture and a long heritage on the Microsoft Windows platform. It is mostly used by video game developers, TV commercial studios and architectural visualization studios. It is also used for movie effects and movie pre-visualization.

3DS Import for SpaceClaim 1.0 Description:

OBJ Import for SpaceClaim is a Wavefront (.obj) file import add-in for SpaceClaim. Thanks to it you will have the possibility to import polygon mesh data from Wavefront OBJ files.

OBJ Import for SpaceClaim reads polygon mesh data stored in OBJ files and imports it into SpaceClaim. A polygon mesh in an OBJ file is comprised of a set of triangular or quad faces. OBJ Import for SpaceClaim creates trimmed planar surfaces for each face and knits them together to create a solid. The solid is then cleaned up so that adjacent coplanar faces are merged in single trimmed planar faces. If the polygon mesh is closed (i.e. it does not contain boundary edges) then OBJ Import for SpaceClaim will create a closed solid feature, otherwise an open surface will be created.

OBJ Import for SpaceClaim is very easy to use. It adds new commands to SpaceClaim. Once installed, it automatically loads itself into SpaceClaim and adds a new ribbon bar to SpaceClaim called “OBJImport” containing the newly added commands.

The ‘OBJImport’ ribbon bar consists of the following commands:
· Import – Import a OBJ file.
· Help – Display the OBJ Import for SpaceClaim help file.
· Register – Register your copy of OBJ Import for SpaceClaim.
· About – Display the OBJ Import for SpaceClaim About box.

OBJ Import for SpaceClaim comes with detailed documentation for each command as well as a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.

3DM Export for SpaceClaim is a Rhinoceros/OpenNURBS (.3dm) file export add-in for SpaceClaim. Thanks to it you will have the possibility to export 3D solid and surface data from a part or assembly SpaceClain document to 3D polygon meshes in a 3DM file.
SpaceClaim already has the ability to export to 3DM files. Solid objects in SpaceClaim are converted into solid objects in 3DM files. SpaceClaim does not offer an option to convert solids into polygon meshes in a 3DM file. The 3DM file format is an open format used by many applications to store polygon mesh data, such as TerrainCAD, our terrain mesh modeling software.
Such applications have no use for solid data in 3DM files. 3DM Export for SpaceClaim gives SpaceClaim the ability to exchange data with such applications. It tessellates solid bodies in a SpaceClaim document into a set of triangular meshes. These meshes are then exported to a 3DM file as mesh objects. The 3DM file can then be imported into a variety of CAD applications.
